To catch a Leprechaun...or will we? That is the question!
This St. Patrick's Day, my master teacher, Mrs. Smith, gave us an awesome PBL (project based learning) idea...build Leprechaun Traps. While this all sounds like just fun and games, it was actually quite rigorous!
We started by doing a close read of a non-fiction text all about Leprechauns; things they like, where they live, etc. We then used this information to create a design for a trap to catch one based on their tendencies.

On Monday, we started creating our traps! Check out some of the awesome traps below!!
We then wrote opinion pieces to companies to explain how their design is the most effective in catching a Leprechaun.
The most AMAZING part of this project was how they've turned into the greatest close readers and were truly digging into the text to help build the best design.
Here's a link to Mrs. Smith's original blog post about the project she did and the materials. Thanks so much!!!
UPDATE!! Upon arrival at school, the Leprechaun got away. And messed up our classroom quite a bit! Perhaps next year we'll do better!
